JM -13 Shidong

Shidong Village, Taijiang County, Guizhou Province,

Miao mythology is incorporated into the satin stitched silk embroidered sleeves and shoulders attached to a foundation garment of classic hand woven, indigo-dyed, beaten cotton cloth. The silk floss, which is reported to be from locally raised silk worms, is single ply in order to create an especially luscious effect. The purple creatures are outlined in with a fine white chain stitch. The front panel is folded silk creating a 3-D design. Very fine quality in excellent condition. Circa 1960.
