Pekinese-Stitched Shiny Cloth Baby Carrier

This fully intact large, masterfully executed baby carrier is from Liping County in SE Guizhou Province. The Pekinese stitched embroidery with silk couched outlines is done on sections of pink, green, and orange silk. The designs are abstract and organic looking, but they do appear to represent dragons guarding the treasure. Old hand made metal pieces are included as well as coins. The center section is made of beaten indigo-dyed cotton known as shining cloth. The straps are embroidered for 62" with the indigo ties being much several yards long.
